In 2016, we asked primary school children across Scotland to design our mascot. We were looking for a character full of imagination and originality. We wanted to inspire children to think differently and creatively, we wanted them to let their imaginations run wild! It was a great opportunity for them to dream up a truly one-of-a-kind mascot. Submissions were judged on creativity and artistic quality, as well as how well they represented the sport of badminton. Each entry also included a brief story about the character.
In August, a panel of judges from BADMINTONscotland came together to decide the winner, and in November the winning mascot was announced at the Scottish Open Grand Prix!
Designed by 10 year old Aidan, Nettie has come down from the Highlands to help us organise the 2017 TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships. She’s a huge fan of badminton and wants legends to be made at the 2017 Championships! Read about her big reveal at the Scottish Open Grand Prix.
Nettie is helping BADMINTONscotland create a legacy. She'll be working with the Development Team and encouraging thousands of children in Scotland to take up badminton, by running a series of Shuttle Time Big Hit Festivals. Read more about the legacy plans.
Nettie is also going to be in charge of all the family fun taking place at the Emirates Arena in August. She’ll be cheering on the players, with help from BADMINTONscotland mascots, Shuttle Jock and Cyril the Squirrel.
Make sure you say hello when you see her!
