Martin Campbell and Patrick MacHugh will face seeded opposition in the second round of the TOTAL BWF World Championships after defeating Dutch pair Jacco Arends and Ruben Jille at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.
Mention Lin Dan and a wry smile appears on Kieran Merrilees’ face, a disbelieving laugh and a shake of the head.
Playing the Greatest Of All Time is not how he had expected his first round tie to fare at the TOTAL BWF World Championships, but that’s exactly what Merrilees will face come Monday.
With four World Championship appearances already under his belt, Martin Campbell is a dab hand at performing on the biggest stage – but that’s not to say the Scot won’t relish every second of his time on court in Glasgow next month.
