Glasgow’s Emirates Arena is the venue for the 2017 World Championships and has quickly become Scotland’s ‘home’ of world-class sport since opening in 2012. Purpose-built for major international sporting events, it boasts a 6,000-seater main arena alongside the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
In addition to being the home of the annual Scottish Open Grand Prix, the Emirates Arena also hosted the badminton competition during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games at what is now regarded as the ‘best ever’ Commonwealth Games.
Emirates Arena regularly hosts many other international sporting events including the Glasgow World Cup Gymnastics, Davis Cup Tennis, UCI Track World Cup, British Athletics International Match and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Track Cycling. A suitably prestigious venue awaits the world’s best at the crown jewel of badminton events in 2017.
History was made on finals day at the TOTAL BWF World Championships as Viktor Axelsen became the first European player to win men’s singles gold in 20 years.
